The Grimoire of Honorious was deemed to be the work of a mad man, but no-one quite knows who he was, but suspicion points in the direction of the Catholic Church, for the name was frequently used by bishops and cardinals, and even the popes. It may well be the work of a high-ranking Church dignitary, one of the many corrupt Catholic bishops who secretly practised the black arts!
As many well know, whilst the Church preached abstinence and poverty to the masses, many withing it ranks enjoyed riches, not to mention a rampant love-life, thought to be the fruits of their practising black magick! Talk about having your cake and eating it too!
The grimoire is thought to date from about 1670, but clearly its characters and symbols date to a much earlier epoch; Honorious, whomever he was, was the custodian of a very old magickal tradition. Black grimoire practitioners were invariably persons of high rank and privilege and publicly devout Catholics.

This stress on the Almighty suggests the church influence.
Officially, the Church condemned magick of any kind out of hand. But, privately, corrupt bishops had the best of both worlds: the Lord God and Jesus on their side spiritually, whilst the Devil tended their material needs!
Anyone with knowledge of Church history will be aware of its corruption. And historians will tell you that rumours of black magick amongst certain members of the Church hierarchy were rampant!
The Grimoire of Honorious was banned because its contents were taboo, and strictly for the chosen few.
The modern author and translator of this bizarre text is also unknown (although we think we know his identity), and we purchased the rights under strange circumstances. We bought the rights on the understanding that we retained the option of NOT publishing it. That was some 30 years ago.
